In Nantucket Sound, weir fishing became an important industry in the
1800s. In its heyday fish weirs lined the inshore waters of the Sound
from Chatham westward harvesting seasonal migratory fish. Though little
has changed in the practice of present day weir fishing , much has
changed in industry itself . Davis will speak about the history and
dynamics of Cape Cod's existing weir fishing and the challenges it faces
in the modern day fishing industry

Davis is a Chatham native with generational ties to the town's fishing
industry. She is co-owner of the weir fishing business Monomoy Trap
Company. She is also a noted freelance photographer who produces diverse
photojournalism for local and national publications and dynamic
commercial imagery for companies and artists. She showed her work in the
Museum's Marshview room last fall .

Attached is a picture of Ms. Davis, taken by photographer Candace
Cochrane.
