On Friday, September 11 at 7 pm Theresa Barbo, noted local author of
historical non-fiction, will speak about her novel Cape Cod Bay: A History
of Salt & Sea --the first book to be set in the bay, and her current
scholarly work Nantucket Sound: A Maritime History. Members free,
Non-Members $3. Following the presentation will be a book signing.
Ms. Barbo's entertaining talks and illustrated presentations are
delivered in a plain-spoken, sometimes serious, but often slightly humorous
style. Her books depict how people lived, worked, fought, loved and died. In
her book Cape Cod Bay: A History of Salt & Sea, Theresa Barbo brings to life
the colorful people and crucial events of the past 400 years on Cape Cod
Bay, and key environmental and public policy concerns of the ecosystem. Her
writings include The Cape Cod Murder of 1899, True Accounts of Yankee
Ingenuity & Grit from The Cape Cod Voice, The Pendleton Disaster off Cape
Cod: the Greatest Small Boat Rescue in Coast Guard History," which remains
on the Commandant's Recommended Reading List for Leadership.
She is the Founding Director of the annual Cape Cod Maritime History
Symposium, now partnered with the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History. Now in
its 14th year, the Symposium has evolved into a leading event of the
month-long Cape Maritime Days sponsored by the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce
and is widely attended by professional and amateur maritime and cultural
historians.
