Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is turning 50 this year. Back in
September 1958, Mass Audubon purchased several hundred acres which has
grown to over 1200 acres today! With history on our minds, we are
offering a couple of programs that might be of interest to you:

This coming weekend join us in a birthday celebration on Saturday,
September 13 from 9 - 3 p.m. Free walks, fun activities for families,
and cake will be served. Specifically, at 11 a.m. Bob Prescott and
Priscilla Bailey (she and her husband Wallace managed the sanctuary
before Bob) will led an informative walk that showcases the history of
the sanctuary. At 1 p.m. Dennis Murley will lead a walk focusing on
changes in landscape at the sanctuary. And both are FREE! No
registration required. Just show up

On Saturday, September 20 at 2 p.m. photographer Dan Tobyne will be
presenting a talk and book signing for his beautiful new gift-edition
book "Thoreau's Cape Cod." Tobyne retraced Thoreau's footsteps on the
Cape and captured changes to the landscape with his creative
photographer's eye. In this new book, Tobyne's brilliant color
photographs are paired with corresponding passages from Thoreau's
writing which brings the Cape's landscape to life. Copies of the book
will be available for purchase. Cost is $8 for Mass Audubon members and
$10 for non-members. Registration is required.

And if a one-day program isn't enough for you...we are hosting our
popular weekend "Maritime and Human History of the Outer Cape" on
October 3-5. This weekend starts on Friday night and runs through Sunday
and features field trips to a variety of locations from Eastham to
Provincetown to examine how the environment and human history influence
and shape one another. This year, Wellfleet Bay naturalist Dennis Murley
will be joined to naturalist, author, and historian John Galluzzo in
leading this exciting weekend. Cost is $250 for Mass Audubon members and
$275 for non-members and includes a boat trip, most meals, and
transportation for field trips.
