ENERGY POLICY ON THE COAST OF MASSACHUSETTS
Energy prices on Cape Cod and on the Massachusetts islands are very high.
The economy is in bad shape..... The cold weather season has started....
How can we help our neighbors while protecting our region's natural
environment? What does "environmental justice" require in our region?
On Sunday afternoon, November 16th, environmentalists and others will
gather at Cape Cod Community College for a new discussion about energy
issues.... Leslie Fields, a senior staff person for the national Sierra Club, will
be one of the chief speakers.... She'll discuss "energy justice" and global
warming.
How do we solve environmental problems while protecting and helping
low-income families?
State Senator Robert O'Leary will also be one of the major speakers.
The November 16th event is free... It starts at 2:00 pm at the Tilden Arts
Center.... Everybody invited.
Co-sponsors include Cape Light Compact, the Sierra Club's Cape Cod and
Islands Group, the Barnstable County Human Rights Commission, the Cape Cod Council
of Churches, and a long list of other organizations that are concerned about
human rights, human dignity, and environmental quality.
We'll have some practical information that families can use to obtain fuel
assistance.
The Woods Hole rally for "energy justice" will take place on January 1,
2009, on Water Street.
Every year - since the year 2001 - area residents have gathered in Woods
Hole to express support
for fuel assistance and affordable shelter on Cape Cod.... It's a local
tradition....
