The Big Picture: Benefits, Programs & Resources (9:00am-9:30am)
An introductory program by Joan Muller, Education Coordinator, Waquoit
Bay Reserve.
Principals of Ecological Landscaping (9:30am-10:45am)
Michael Talbot, President, Michael Talbot & Associates, Inc., certified
Arborist, Massachusetts Certified Horticulturist and a well-known
lecturer, will share his expertise on ecological landscaping. His
presentation will form an introduction to design of home landscapes as
well as offer safer ways to care for your trees, shrubs, and
flowers-using less irrigation and little or no pesticides or synthetic
fertilizers.
Organic Lawn Care (11:00am-12:15pm)
Lindsay Strode, owner of Cape Organics, will present an overview of
ecological lawn care including the steps to starting and maintaining an
organic lawn.
Local Lunch from Coonemessett Farm
Organic Vegetable Gardening (1:00pm-2:15pm)
Stan Ingram, former Garden Manager at New Alchamy Institute and organic
vegetable gardener will teach us about the process of growing your own
food. Beginning with the right seed choices and how to start seeds and
keep them growing, to preparing and maintaining your garden and finally,
a healthy harvest.
Optional Tour of the Reserve Grounds (2:15pm)
Join Joan Muller on a walk around the Reserve to identify native and
invasive species.
