Friends of CCMNH monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 8,
2008 at 12:30pm, followed by the program, Discover Cranberries, with
Jeff LaFleur at 1:30. Friends members/free, guests/$3
Jeff LaFleur will give a talk about the Massachusetts Cranberry
Industry, a leading producer of cranberries producing nearly 30% of
the nations cranberry crop, from its origins in Dennis MA, to a world
wide commodity. He will cover the historical connections,
environmental issues and rapid changes growers are experiencing with
production practices in an expanding market.
Jeff has been the Executive Director of the Cape Cod Cranberry
Growers' Association (CCCGA) since 1996. He oversees CCGA's
legislative, environmental, research and public relations
programs. This 325-member organization is one of the oldest farmer's
organizations in the country, established in 1888. Jeff is also the
first President of the newly formed New England Farmers Union and
currently serves on the NRCS State Technical Committee in MA.
