Negotiating for Coastal Resources Workshop

January 24-25, 2008

The Bayside Resort, West Yarmouth

Space is still available

Negotiation is one of the skills that coastal resource professionals
frequently need to use but tailored training on this topic is generally
lacking. It is one of those skills that people often wish they
possessed especially when difficult planning situations arise and lines
are drawn in the sand. Whether you are involved in land use planning,
open space protection and acquisition, conservation, regulating actions
in the coastal zone or collaborating with different entities to develop
solutions to coastal problems, this workshop will be beneficial. It is
designed to teach basic negotiation skills and concepts including when
to negotiate, what to negotiate, how to prepare for negotiations and how
to negotiate interagency/interboard relationships, coastal and land use
issues. Negotiating for Coastal Resources is an interactive curriculum
designed to provide practical skills and information to professionals
and volunteers involved in the management of coastal resources on all
facets of negotiation.

Who Should Attend?

Coastal managers, municipal officials, conservation commissions, natural
resource officers, land managers, planners, NGO representatives and
environmental leaders.

Workshop Instructor: This workshop was developed by the NOAA Coastal
Services Center and will be taught by one of their training specialists
- Ms. Kristy Ellenberg. Ms. Ellenberg is a former lawyer and an
environmental consultant with expertise in public issues management,
economic development, and environmental education and mediation.

The workshop is being organized by the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine
Research Reserve. See brochure insert below for additional information.
(* N.B. Registration fee can be paid prior to or at the workshop.)
