A Sea of Culture: Conservation through Art, a lecture series presented by
Nantucket Soundkeeper and the Whale & Dolphin Conservation Society, will
take place at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster on
Wednesdays, March 5th-April 2 from 6:30-8:30 pm.
This series of five lectures is free to the public.
Wednesday, March 5
William Marks. Conservationist and author of The History of Wind
Power on Martha's Vineyard, The Holy Order of Water: Healing the Earth's
Waters and Ourselves and editor of Water Voices from Around the World.
Wednesday, March 12
Sandy Macfarlane. One of the first town shellfish biologists in
Massachusetts. Author of Rowing Forward, Looking Back: Shellfish and the
Tides of Change at the Elbow of Cape Cod and Tiggie: The Lure and Lore of
Commercial Fishing in New England.
Wednesday, March 19
Scott Landry. Biologist and illustrator in the field of marine
conservation. Presently with Large Whale Disentanglement Program at the
Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies. Published in scientific
publications and conservation outreach campaigns nationally and abroad, and
in The Urban Whale (Kraus and Rolland).
Wednesday, March 26
Shareen Davis. Native Cape Codder. Active in fisheries advocacy.
Photographer for the Cape Cod Voice, marine life and fishermen.
Wednesday, April 2
Mark Alan Lovewell. Singer of sea chanties and storyteller
celebrating the rich maritime heritage of New England.
