Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is hosting the following
talk on Wednesday:

"Restoring the Wellfleet Oyster"
Presentation by Boze Hancock of The Nature Conservancy
Wednesday, August 13, 7:30 p.m.
at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary

The Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is working with the Town of
Wellfleet, The Nature Conservancy, Massachusetts Division of Marine
Fisheries (DMF), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA) are investigating the possibility of establishing an "oyster
reef" and restoration project on the tidal flats off the Wellfleet Bay
Wildlife Sanctuary to reestablish a healthy, wild population of oysters
in Wellfleet.

The goals of the proposed project are to restore a habitat that is now
missing in the Wellfleet Harbor ecosystem while understanding how
natural mortality, disease, and harvest influence these reefs. Project
investigators will also study the ecological benefits that the oyster
reef will provide to the area.

In the scheduled presentation, speaker Boze Hancock, TNC-NOAA National
Partnership Coordinator, Global Marine Team, will introduce this concept
and highlight similar projects in the New England region.

The talk will be held at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, Route 6,
South Wellfleet. Cost is $7 for Mass Audubon members and $9 for
non-members.
