The Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies (PCCS) world-renowned
disentanglement team operates under federal permit to free large marine
mammals from marine debris and fishing gear. Since 1984, PCCS has freed
more than seventy large whales from life threatening disentanglements, using
techniques developed by the Center staff. In this presentation, the dynamic
relationship between humans and marine mammals will be explored. Learn
about disentanglement techniques and plausible solutions to entanglement
issues from an experienced team member. For more information about PCCS or
their disentanglement program, visit the PCCS website at

Brian Sharp received his B.S. in Animal Science from Virginia Polytechnic
Institute and State University in 1997. For over three years he has held his
current position as a member of the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies
Large Whale Disentanglement Program. The Center is contracted by the
federal government to coordinate and conduct all large whale
disentanglements along the Eastern Seaboard from Maine to Florida. Brian
also acts as the Sea Turtle Disentanglement Coordinator for Massachusetts,
the state with the highest reported rate of sea turtle entanglements in the
northeast region.
