The Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve has planned two
training sessions for the purpose of educating new and returning
volunteers about the Reserve and what we do. These sessions are open to
anyone interested in learning more about the Reserve as well as those
wishing to find out about volunteer opportunities in research,
stewardship and education.

 

In particular, the Reserve is looking for visitor greeters to staff the
visitor center at the Reserve Headquarters during the months of July and
August. Volunteers work a 3 hour shift each week, either from 10 AM to 1
PM or 1PM until 4PM. Duties include answering visitor questions, selling
books and T-shirts and helping to interpret the exhibits. Shifts are
available Mon through Saturday for the summer.

June 13 - 5:30 to 7:30 PM         All Volunteers - Meet at the visitor
center. Learn about the Reserve System and in particular how WBNERR
functions as a state park as well as a National Estuarine Research
Reserve. We will travel to some of the study sites around the Reserve
and learn about projects we are currently involved with.

 

               7:30 - 8:30 PM           Visitor Greeters -The last hour
of this session will be especially for those interested in working as
visitor greeters this summer. We will go over logistics and details you
need to know. 

 

June 19 - 5:30 to 8:30 PM         All Volunteers - Learn everything you
always wanted to know about Waquoit Bay and more. Using fun hands-on
models and demonstrations we'll help you to understand how watersheds,
nutrient loads, eutrophication, nitrogen removal systems, and ground
water all relate to Waquoit Bay as well as our daily lives.
Understanding these concepts will help you make informed decisions in
the future and understand the mission and the science behind the Waquoit
Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.
