Step It Up 2007: Uniting for Climate Change
On Saturday, April 14, 2007, people in hundreds of communities
across the country are gathering to draw attention to the issue of
climate change and to ask Congress to take action to reduce U.S.
emissions (see http://stepitup2007.org/)
A Climate Action Day event will take place in Falmouth 11 a.m. to 1
p.m. on April 14th. Come and join in!
The focus will be: What climate change means to our coastal
community and what we can do to mitigate it.
One likely effect of climate change will be loss of land as sea
level rises ---
Hence, the event will begin at Surf Drive Beach with a Rally for
Climate Action. Participants will then Walk for Solutions
(walk/bike/skate) along a route marked to show how far inland the
shoreline could be under different scenarios of sea level rise,
ending at the Village Green, where there will be a Solutions Fair
(with speeches, posters, hybrid vehicles on display, local foods,
alternative energy demonstrations, free fluorescent light bulbs,
donated seedlings to plant, and more!)
Scientists from our local community will speak on issues ranging
from melting glaciers and coastal impacts to technological and
policy solutions.
