Cape & Islands Self-Reliance, in collaboration with Cape Light Compact, Cape
Cod Technology Council, Cape Cod Community College's Environmental
Technology Program, and the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association, is
pleased to announce the first Cape Cod Solar Solutions Day.
Solar Solutions Day
With electricity and gasoline prices at record levels, Solar Solutions Day
provides an opportunity for the public to learn more about solar energy,
energy efficiency, green buildings, alternative transportation, and
renewable energy. The day will include informative lectures by local energy
experts; exhibits by local organizations, schools, and businesses;
alternative fuel and hybrid vehicle demonstrations; a model solar powered
car race; and tours of Cape Cod Community College's new LEED certified green
building. This free event is open to anyone who is interested in alternative
energy and energy efficiency options.
Lectures and tours will take place from 10:00 to 4:00 in the Science

3rd Annual C&I Junior Solar Sprint (9:00am-1:00pm - Tennis Courts)
The Junior Solar Sprint (JSS) is a model solar car competition for middle
school students. The JSS began in 1990 as a single race, and is now a
national competition involving more than 100,000 students. For the
competition, students must apply physical sciences, engineering, and
creativity to construct model solar-powered cars. Teams of students from
across the Cape, Islands, and South Shore will compete for prizes in the
categories of Speed, Craftsmanship, Innovation, and Technical Merit. This
year's area race will be held on June 3rd from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the
tennis courts of Cape Cod Community College. More information on the event
can be found at www.reliance.org
