NANTUCKET SOUNDKEEPER PROGRAM OFFICER

Nantucket Soundkeeper is seeking a qualified and energetic individual to 
serve as Program Officer in support of Nantucket Soundkeeper efforts. 
The individual will assist the advocacy activities of Nantucket 
Soundkeeper in the following ways:

- Manage Nantucket Soundkeeper pollution hotline,
- Assist with 2006 water quality monitoring program,
- Conduct regular on-the-water pollution patrols in Nantucket Sound,
- Document and report oil spill or other pollution problems on the water,
- Manage 2006 shoreline survey of Nantucket Sound,
- Work with boaters, marina operators, fishermen and others to promote 
best conduct to preserve water quality and habitats,
- Review National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase I 
and Phase II permits, water quality standards, and other legislation is 
it relates to protecting water quality within Nantucket Sound,
- Attend meetings of, and work cooperatively with, various local, 
regional, and non-profit agencies to promote wellbeing of Nantucket Sound,
- Promote energy conservation and development of alternative energy 
sources with area residents and visitors,
- Coordinate Nantucket Soundkeeper beach and harbor cleanups,
- Assist with training and organizing citizen volunteers,
- Promote visibility of Nantucket Soundkeeper in the community.

Qualified candidates should have a Bachelor of Science degree or a have 
majored in a closely related field, and have coastal resource management 
skills, experience with water quality monitoring, excellent people 
skills, strong oral and written communication skills, proficiency with 
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and a passion for Nantucket Sound. 
Boating experience and ability to operate a small power vessel is a must.

Position is full time for six months, May 1 to October 31, 2006, with 
possibility of continuation thereafter as permanent position. Nantucket
