Author Nancy Jack Todd to Speak at CIREC's April 19 Meeting
Nancy Jack Todd will be speaking at the April meeting of the Cape &
Islands Renewable Energy Collaborative (CIREC), at Border's Books in
Hyannis on Wednesday, April 19, at 7 pm.
The author is an award winning Cape Cod based writer. Her book, A Safe
and Sustainable World: The Promise of Ecological Design, is an
experiential account of the work of the New Alchemy Institute in
Hatchville in exploring sustainable options in food, energy, and
shelter.
The book further recounts how the knowledge gleaned there led to the
ecologically restorative work of Ocean Arks International of Falmouth.
It is being haled as one of the few hopeful environmental books around
and has been likened to Rachel Carson's The Sea Around Us.
Following the book reading and discussion, there will be a book signing
as well as time to network. Information will be available on membership
in CIREC, the local chapter of the Northeast Sustainable Energy
Association (NESEA).
CIREC (http://www.cirenew.org/ <http://www.cirenew.org/> ) was formed in
2000 to bring together diverse individuals and organizations with common
interest in achieving a sustainable energy future, both locally and
globally. CIREC participants work together to build awareness of the
benefits of renewable energy, increase the use of clean energy
technologies, and lay the groundwork for transforming the energy basis
of the Cape & Islands region.
In September 2005, CIREC became the local chapter of the Northeast
Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA). NESEA (http://www.nesea.org/
<http://www.nesea.org/> ) is the leading regional membership
organization in the United States focused on promoting the
understanding, development, and adoption of energy conservation and
renewable energy technologies. NESEA is headquartered in Greenfield,
Mass. Other chapters are centered on the North Shore and in Boston and
located in Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York,
Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
