Massachusetts Marine Educators 30th Woods Hole Conference

Conference Theme: Oceans and Climate
Join us for the 30th annual Massachusetts Marine Educators conference at
the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) as we investigate Oceans
and Climate. Come hear marine scientists speak about their latest
research, then try out frameworks-linked lessons led by master
educators. You will be sure to find Oceans and Climate a hot topic for
your students, as you collect teaching resources, exchange ideas, and
earn PDPs. Top off your learning with a sampling cruise or an insider's
tour of local institutions!
COST: $50 (includes lunch and teaching materials)

10:15-10:30 Break with complimentary coffee and donuts; explore exhibits
10:30-11:30 Dr. David Mountain, National Marine Fisheries Service:
Climate Change and Fish in the Gulf of Maine
11:30-12:00 MME Annual Business Meeting and Awards
12:00-1:00 Lunch: enjoy a complimentary cup of Cape Cod chowder
1:00-2:00 Abby Manahan, Bigelow Labs: Phytopia CD, A Marine
Teaching Resource

2:00-2:30 Presentation of door prizes
Afternoon workshops and tours: choose from several topics and locations
2:30-3:30 Workshops: Choose from sessions where you can try out
lessons about oceans and climate, working
with scientists, fish, or eelgrass restoration,
presented by experienced teachers
and collect teaching materials and ideas.
3:30-4:30 Tours: Visit Woods Hole docks, labs, and resource centers
and learn about the amazing ocean research and
technology supported by the science
institutions in Woods Hole

2:30-4:30 Experience sampling in Woods Hole waters with the
educational group OceanQuest on a 2-hour
cruise aboard the 54 foot "Sea Star"
(pre- registration required)
5:00-6:00 Social reception at Fisher House, Church St, Woods Hole
6:00-8:30 MME Anniversary dinner at Fisher House, Church St.,
Woods Hole
Directions: From the Bourne Bridge rotary, travel south on Route 28. At
the second rotary on Route 28, travel halfway around to continue south
to the town of Falmouth. After a traffic light, continue straight for
about half a mile and bear right at the Gulf station onto Woods Hole
Road. Travel four miles to WHOI's facilities in the village of Woods
Hole. Redfield is the first large brick building on the right as you
enter Woods Hole village, just after you pass School Street. Limited
street parking is available in the village, and the WHOI lot across from
Redfield will be available to attendees.
