FYI, the following presentation on ecosystem restoration will be held
next Wednesday evening in Falmouth:
Ecosystem Restoration: Why Do It?
Date: Wednesday, March 16th
Time: 7:30 pm
Place: Morse Pond School
The 300 Committee 2005 speaker series continues with Chris Neill, a
scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory. He will present an
engaging, illustrated talk on ecosystem restoration and the use of tools
such as forest clearing and fire management to aid in the process.
Chris's work guides conservation management of costal upland ecosystems,
maximizing the "services" they provide in maintaining biological
diversity, water supplies and prevention of nitrogen runoff.
Chris has worked on Martha's Vineyard as well as the Amazon. He
specializes in the movement of elements from forests and grasslands to
streams and estuaries, and the effects to vegetation caused by changes
in land use and human actions. His presentation will help answer your
questions on why we should restore our Cape and islands ecosystems and
how to go about it.
