MEPA 101: A Primer on the MA Environmental Policy Act
A free presentation brought to you by the South Coastal Watershed Network
With Cindy Delpapa of the Massachusetts Riverways Program
(MA Dept. of Fish and Game)
March 10, 2005
9:00 to 11:30 am
South Shore Natural Science Center in Norwell
The charge of the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) is to review
and evaluate proposed projects for their potential to impact the natural
environmental. The MEPA process can appear daunting, confusing, and the
copious abbreviations an alphabet soup more likely to illicit groans than
interest. This presentation hopes to show the value of the MEPA as a useful
tool, providing information on a project in its entirety. Come learn the
basics-- what projects require a filing with MEPA, what are the different
steps within the review, how someone can participate and comment on a
project, and maybe a few suggestions on reading a MEPA filing.
Registration Required: There is no charge to attend this presentation, but
space is limited. To register (or for more information), please contact
Wendy Garpow at 781-659-8168 or wendy at nsrwa.org
Directions to the South Shore Natural Science Center: From Route 3 -- Take

This presentation is part of the 2005 Green Communities Speaker Series,
which is brought to you by the South Coastal Watershed Network. We are an
informal group of citizens, local officials, nonprofit organizations, and
government agencies that work together to protect our regions water
resources. The SCWNetwork is coordinated by the Massachusetts Bays National
Estuary Program, the North & South Rivers Watershed Association, and the MA
Office of Coastal Zone Management, who have also sponsored the series.
