Hello,
Katrina, soaring energy costs, wind turbines on and off Cape Cod,
drilling in the Artic National Wildlife Refuge... Energy is looming
large these days, in the news and for every one of us. Energy concepts
are clearly embedded in the Massachusetts Frameworks. Would you like to
deepen your knowledge of these issues so you can better challenge your
students and answer their questions? Then....
Now's the time to register for Charge Up Your Curriculum with Renewable
Energy, a series of teacher workshops to be held at Cape Cod Technical
High School in Harwich. Although the class was designed with the MA
curriculum frameworks from grades 6-10 in mind, other teachers are
welcome to attend and adapt the information and activities for their own
classrooms. PDPs are available at no charge or teachers may elect to
take the course for two graduate credits at a cost of $110.00. Topics
include climate change, non-renewable energy sources, school energy
audits, heat from the sun, wind energy, and other sources of renewable
energy including biodeisel. The sessions will be taught by guest
specialists and will include handouts, activities, and tours of the
student- installed renewable energy installations at the tech school
including their new wind turbine. Classroom teachers who successfully
complete the course will also be eligible for $100.00 grants to
implement the curriculum in their classroom.
