ENV 160-63 Introductory Concepts in GIS


 Who should take it ?
        Students who need to learn GIS for a career/job
        Students who want to explore GIS as a tool for their discipline
When ?
        June 20, 2005 - August 3, 2005

                        Monday and Wednesday 6:30-9:30 p.m. South 108

Why ?
        First course for students in GIS certificate program

                        (Pre-requisite for GIS I)

        An elective for A.S. in Environmental Technology or

                        A. A. in Environmental Studies

        Learn how this tool can apply to your work or discipline
What's covered ?
Components of the course will include: Geography and Map Reading, 
Fundamentals of Cartography, Computer Fundamentals (word processing, 
spreadsheets, database programs and structure), and the Windows 
Operating System and directory structures. It will also introduce the 
students to some of the common software programs used in GIS and will 
provide an overview of GIS related technologies such as GPS, CAD, 
surveying, photogrammetry and satellite imagery.
