Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary hosts lecture focusing on
sea turtle strandings.

LESSONS LEARNED FROM LOGGERHEADS
Saturday, October 30, 2 p.m.
at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary

Each year in late fall scores of cold-stunned sea turtles wash ashore on bay
beaches on Cape Cod. Wellfleet Bay staff and volunteers walk beaches in
search of these stranded marine reptiles. Working in cooperation with
National Marine Life Center and New England Aquarium, the sanctuary rescues
and rehabilitates loggerheads, ridleys, and green turtles. Over the years
many “lessons” have been learned from these efforts.

In this lecture Wellfleet Bay's Bob Prescott and Don Lewis will share
information about sea turtle biology and what has been learned about this
yearly stranding phenomenon. Volunteer Bill Allen will also highlight his
involvement in assisting research on nesting loggerheads through Mote Marine
Lab in Florida. Information on how to become involved in volunteer efforts
will also be provided.

The talk is held at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. The cost is $4 for
members of Mass Audubon and $5 for non-members. Registration is required.
