Several free opportunities for the public to learn more about wind energy
are being offered this fall through a collaborative effort of Cape and
Islands Self-Reliance Corp., Cape Cod Community College, and the Waquoit Bay
National Estuarine Research Reserve. Funding is being provided through the
Cape Cod Community College and the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust.
These educational opportunities are being offered as part of the Renewable
Energy Technician Program that is being developed at CCCC with a grant from
the National Science Foundation.

October 7; Small Wind Forum
3:30-5:00 pm, Cape Cod Community College, Science Bldg., Lecture Hall A
Wind power comes in all sizes from commercial-scale wind farms to mini wind
turbines on sailboats and RVs. This presentation is designed to introduce
people to wind turbines that are made to power individual homes, farms, and
businesses with clean, renewable energy. Topics covered include wind power
basics, an overview of small wind technology, basic site assessment, and
cost analysis. Come learn how to erase your electric bill!

October 14; Bus Trip to Hull's Wind Turbine
Depart Harwich Park & Ride 8:15 am and return 2:15 pm; depart Sagamore Park
& Ride 9:00 am and return at 1:30 pm.
The town of Hull, Massachusetts is nationally recognized as a leader in
bringing the benefits of wind energy to their residents. The Hull wind
turbine is a "must see" for anyone interested or concerned about the
development of wind energy on Cape Cod. As many towns are moving forward
with plans to install similar machines, now is the time to become informed
about how wind energy can be made to work for you and your town. Municipal
and county officials are highly encouraged to attend. (Seating is limited
and reservations are required: call Laurie Tompkins, 508-457-0495 ext. 333.)

November 16 & 17; Community Wind Forums
November 16, 7 pm at Cape Cod Community College, Science Bldg., Lecture Hall
A
November 17, 7 pm at Upper Cape Cod Technical High School
November 17, Outer Cape - Date, Time, & Location TBA
Almost every town on Cape Cod is investigating the potential of wind
turbines to save taxpayer money, improve energy security, and protect the
environment and public health of their residents. Because modern wind
turbines are new to the Cape, any proposal is sure to raise some concerns
within a community. These forums are designed to answer the most commonly
asked questions about wind energy and dispel some of the most common myths.
Forums will feature Sally Wright, a nationally recognized expert in wind
energy and Staff Engineer at the University of Massachusetts' Renewable
Energy Research Laboratory.
