Corie Baird of MOTE MARINE LABORATORY to Speak about SEA TURTLE RESEARCH &
CARE at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary

The story of rescuing cold-stunned sea turtles by the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife
Sanctuary and New England Aquarium is well known in our area, but the role
of Mote Marine Laboratory in Florida is less understood; however, their care
and research of sea turtles is as equally important to the survival of these
rare species. To shed light on the Cape Cod to Florida sea turtle connection
and to introduce the work of the Mote Marine Lab their Sea Turtle Care
Coordinator Corie Baird will speak at Wellfleet Bay on Saturday, November 20
at 2 p.m.

The mission of Mote Marine Laboratory's Sea Turtle Conservation and Research
Program is to monitor sea turtle activity, to learn more about the biology
and behavior of these species, and to help reduce the impacts of human
activity. Mote is also where many of the rehabilitated sea turtles found on
Cape Cod are flown to finish their recovery prior to their release. Ms.
Baird will provide an overview focusing on their research projects and the
follow-up care “our” turtles receive.

The presentation will be held at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. Cost
is $4 for Mass Audubon members and $5 for nonmembers. Registration is
required. To register or for more information please call the Wellfleet Bay
Wildlife Sanctuary at 508-349-2615.
