Mass Audubon Offers Cruises to See and Learn About Whales and Seals

South Wellfleet, MA. – Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is
offering two different types of boat trips this spring to observe and learn
about the marine mammals found around Cape Cod.

On Sunday, June 13th Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary Director Bob Prescott will be
the naturalist aboard one of the Dolphin Fleet whale watch boats. The
Sanctuary has chartered the boat for this special trip and our destination
is Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary in hopes of observing humpback
and finback whales, both federally endangered species, as well as Minke
whales, dolphins, and a variety of seabirds. The trip leaves out of
MacMillian Wharf in Provincetown at 8:30 a.m. The cost for this special
charter is $25 for Mass Audubon members and $30 for non-members.

Throughout the spring and summer, Wellfleet Bay staff naturalists will lead
seal cruises to observe the gray seals that congregate on the shallow bars
and beaches off South Beach and Monomoy Islands in Chatham. Often several
hundred seals can be seen resting and swimming and these trips offer an
opportunity to learn about their fascinating life histories and see them at
close range. Trips are limited to 15 participants so it provides a small
group experience. The first trip is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend and
they are offered several times a week through October. Cost for the 1-½ hour
cruises are $30 for Mass Audubon members and $35 for non-members.

Both trips require pre-registration. To learn more about them, or to
register, contact the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary at 508-349-2615.
