An Invitation from the
Center for Coastal Studies
Please join the Center for Coastal Studies (CCS) at A Celebration of Right
Whales, its spring benefit dinner, scheduled for Thursday, April 15th at
Anthonys Cummaquid Inn in Yarmouth Port, Cape Cod, MA. The event begins with a
cocktail reception at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m.
Massachusetts Environmental Affairs Secretary Ellen Roy Herzfelder will be the
keynote speaker at the event.
During the cocktail reception, CCS researchers and scientists will host a Right
Whale Research Exhibition showcasing ongoing efforts to protect the North
Atlantic right whale. Coastal Ecology, Cape Cod Bay Monitoring, and Humpback
Whale Studies CCS programs keenly connected to the study and conservation of
right whales will also be part of the Exhibition, led by respective program
directors.
The benefit dinner marks the annual return of the North Atlantic right whale
(Eubalaena glacialis) to Cape Cod Bay. Cape Cod Bay is a federally-designated
critical habitat for North Atlantic right whales, the rarest baleen whale in the
world with fewer than 325 individuals remaining.
CCS - based in Provincetown, MA - has contributed to the research and
conservation efforts of this endangered population since 1984.
For over a quarter century, CCS has worked to increase understanding and
protection of coastal and marine environments including Cape Cod Bay with an
emphasis on marine mammals of the western North Atlantic, and on the coastal and
marine habitats and resources of the Gulf of Maine.
