Space Available at Waquoit Summer Science School
The Citizens for the Protection of Waquoit Bay is happy to announce the
2004 Summer Science School for children at the Waquoit Bay National
Estuarine Research Reserve still has openings in several of the
sessions.
The Science School provides children with the opportunity to fully
experience the many ecosystems of Cape Cod through hands-on explorations
of Waquoit Bay and its surrounding marshes, beaches and woods. Students
will learn about the local environment through the process of scientific
experimentation, games, and crafts.
In addition to getting their feet wet exploring tidal flats;
participants will conduct fascinating microscope investigations and
aquarium observations. Children's enthusiasm for activities like
discovering animals, digging in the mud and picking blueberries will be
rewarded with valuable lessons about the Waquoit Bay watershed and its
many inhabitants.
Openings are still available for children entering into grades 2 and 3,
July 19-23, 2004 from 8:45-noon. The cost for the week is $80.00. For
older children there are still spots available for girls entering grades
7-9 for the week of August 9-13 and for boys entering grades 7-9 the
week of August 16-20, 2004. The girls and boys only sessions offer an
overnight camp-out at Washburn Island with leadership and team-building
activities along with scientific investigations and outdoor skill
development. The cost for this program is $115.00.
Full or partial scholarships may be available for qualified students,
