Rick York, Mashpee Shellfish Constable, will speak on Restoration of the Scallop Fishery in Waquoit Bay. In addition to taking a look at the history of the scallop, hell bring us up to date on recent efforts to offset the effects of human impacts on this well-loved species. Hell bring samples of scallops and demonstrate the proper gathering techniques. Falmouths Shellfish Constable, Paul Montague, will focus on quahogs in our local waters, providing an insider's view of aquaculture efforts and demonstrating proper harvesting techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their questions for a lively interactive discussion.

National Estuaries Day is celebrated across the nation and is co-sponsored the National Estuaries Program and the National Estuarine Research Reserve Program. Estuaries, protected places where fresh and salt water meet provide homes and a nursery area for much of the fish and shellfish we eat. They also act as a buffer from storms and filter out pollutants which come from the land. For more information, check out estuaries.gov.

Reserve Headquarters Visitor Center is located at 149 Waquoit Highway (Route 28) in East Falmouth. The program is free and reservations are not necessary however seats will be given on a first-come/first-served basis. For more information call 508-457-0495.
