Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve

Endangered Shorebird Manager
Manage endangered shorebird monitoring program. Train and coordinate
volunteers, conduct educational activities, maintain records, write
reports. Must be able to walk long distances on uneven, sandy terrain.
Requirements: Degree in wildlife biology or related field or equivalent
experience. Starting at $400.00 per week; approximately mid-April -
Labor Day (pending state funding); Closing Date: February, 2004.
Summer Interpretive Naturalist
Design, publicize and implement interpretive programs, walks and special
events for children and adults relating to watersheds, estuaries and
related research. Work on special projects.
Requirements: Previous experience in teaching, giving presentations, and
interpretive walks; knowledgeable about coastal ecology. Standard First
Aid and CPR required.
Starting at $400.00 per week; approximately mid-June to Labor Day;
Closing date: February, 2004.
Island Managers (3)
Serve as information resource for public on 330 acre Washburn Island.
Issue permits, maintain campsites and trails and encourage compliance
with rules to protect the resource. Give interpretive programs. Patrol
the island to monitor endangered species such as Piping Plovers. Island
Managers camp on Washburn Island four nights per week and spend one day
working at Reserve Headquarters.
Requirements: Applicants must be at least twenty years old and have
basic camping skills, experience working with the public and knowledge
of coastal ecology. Standard First Aid and CPR are required. Boating
experience preferred.
Starting at - $400.00 per week: off island housing and tents provided:
two starting in late May; 1 in mid-June to Labor Day Closing date:
February, 2004
Summer Science School Directors (2)
Responsible for program planning, teaching and care of children for
weeklong sessions of science school for students age 7-14.
Requirements: Experience working with children, knowledge of coastal
environments, First Aid and CPR certification.
Starting at $400.00-$450 per week depending on experience,
(training required in late June); Closing date: when filled.
Summer Workers (5)
Responsible for various tasks from fee collection to light maintenance.
Some start in May, some in June until Labor Day. Closing date, when
filled.
Environmental Education Intern(s) Unpaid
Assist with spring, summer and/or fall interpretive and educational
programs for adults and children relating to watersheds, estuaries and
related research and work on special projects commensurate with
applicant's experience.
Requirements: Enrollment in environmental education or related program.
Applicants should be knowledgeable about coastal environmental science.
Free dorm housing in exchange for 20 hours of work per week. Starting
and ending dates flexible including spring and fall.
Closing date: Revolving
**Dormitory facility available $8/night
