The Lloyd Center for Environmental Studies will sponsor the following Canoe
and Kayak Paddling Trips in September 2003:

September 6, 2003
SEINING FOR SUBTROPICALS on the West Branch of the Westport River
Saturday, 9 am 3 pm
Meet at the Lloyd Center, 430 Potomska Road, South Dartmouth, MA 02748
$40 members / $45 non-members
A unique experience! Accompanied by Lloyd Center educator-naturalists,
paddle in a canoe to the best places to seine for the many, varied species
of unusual subtropical fish that inhabit the Westport River in late summer.
Carried north by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream, subtropical fish often
end up in the Westport River at this time of year.
Rain date: Sunday, September 7

September 8, 2003
MOONLIGHT PADDLING on the SLOCUMS RIVER (HARVEST MOON trip)
Monday, 6 pm 10 pm
Meet at the Lloyd Center, 430 Potomska Road, South Dartmouth, MA 02748
$30 members / $35 non-members
This is always an exceptional event! Watch the sun set and the full moon
rise, as you paddle the Slocums River.
Rain date: Tuesday, September 9

Saturday September 20 and Sunday September 21
WASHBURN ISLAND: Special Paddling and Overnight Camping Trip to Waquoit Bay,
Cape Cod
6 am Saturday - 6 pm Sunday
Meet at the Lloyd Center, 430 Potomska Road, South Dartmouth, MA 02748
$120 members / $130 non-members
Gear shakedown Tuesday, September 16 at 7 pm, Lloyd Center, in the Bond
House
We will camp out overnight on the shore of Washburn Island in undeveloped
Waquoit Bay, home of the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve!
Experience what the Cape was like before European settlement. Because this
trip takes place after the end of the regular camping season, we will avoid
the crowded conditions of the summer.
There is no rain date for this trip.

To register for trips, please call (508) 990-0505, extension 21. All events
are led by Cat Radcliffe, the Lloyd Center¹s ACA-certified paddling
instructor. Lloyd Center naturalists will accompany many of the trips,
contributing their understanding and knowledge of our region¹s natural
history. Please go to www.thelloydcenter.org for updated information on
various outdoor programs and other projects sponsored by the Lloyd Center.
The mission of the Lloyd Center for Environmental Studies is to facilitate
long-term conservation of our natural resources through education and
research, and to inspire and empower citizens to make wise environmental
management choices.
