National Research Initiative Competitive Grants Program
2003 Request for Applications
The Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service
(CSREES) requests applications for the National Research Initiative
(NRI) Competitive Grants Program for fiscal year (FY) 2003 to support
high priority fundamental and mission-linked research of importance in
the biological, environmental, physical, and social sciences relevant to
agriculture, food, and the environment. The anticipated amount available
for support of this program in FY 2003 is approximately $112.5 million
contingent on congressional action.

The above link identifies the objectives for NRI projects, the
eligibility criteria for projects and applicants, and the application
forms and associated instructions needed to apply for a NRI grant.
CSREES additionally requests stakeholder input from any interested party
for use in the development of the next Request for Applications (RFA)
for this program.
Applications must be received by NRI (Washington, D.C.) by close of
business (5:00 p.m. Eastern Time) on the dates indicated at the end of
the notice (receipt dates vary from October 1, 2002, to January 15,
2003, depending on program area). Applications received after the
deadline will not be considered for funding. Comments regarding this RFA
are requested within six months from the issuance of this notice.
Comments received after that date will be considered to the extent
practicable.
