FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Return of the Osprey
MMA to sponsor David Gessner Lecture

CONTACT: Angela Mazaris, Public Relations Coordinator
  (508) 228-9198

On Monday, August 5 at 8 pm at the Unitarian Church, the Maria Mitchell
Association will present a lecture by David
Gessner, author of "Return of the Osprey: A Season of Flight and
Wonder". Gessner appears as part of the Monday Super
Series: Summer Evenings of Arts and Ideas, a collaboration of several
local non-profit organizations including the Maria Mitchell
Association. Gessner, an avid birdwatcher and nature writer, details his
day-to-day experience with the endangered ospreys,
telling a story of perseverance and hope in the natural environment of
Cape Cod.

Gessner's account of the ospreys chronicles a crucial effort to restore
endangered species in New England threatened by human
impact. With years of experience on Cape Cod, Gessner speaks with a
local passion for birds and the outdoors. Named one of
the Boston Globe best non-fiction books of 2001, "Return of the Osprey"
is a compelling local story, with Gessner's skillful
writing probing deeper than the study of birds to an exploration of self
and nature.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Maria Mitchell Association
at 4 Vestal Street, as well as at Mitchell's Book Corner
and Nantucket Bookworks. For questions regarding the David Gessner
lecture, please contact Angela Mazaris, Public Relations
Coordinator at (508)-228-9198.
