Volunteers Needed for Water Festival September 21

Would you like to help with science education and
have a good time too? Morse Pond School in Falmouth
will be holding a water festival for Grade 5
students on Friday, September 21, 2001. At the
festival, students will participate in many
different activities to learn a variety of concepts
about water on Cape Cod. We need volunteers to help
staff the tables, distribute materials, set up and
clean up, and direct students to activities. We
would be glad to have volunteers for a couple of
hours, half a day, or the full day. No experience
is necessary; we will be glad to train you for any
role you choose. Volunteers are invited to share a
complimentary lunch and refreshments
during the day.

The festival will be held from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM.
Stations will be set up both indoors and outdoors.
Each of the stations will focus on a concept related
to water, such as the water cycle, groundwater flow,
water quality testing, and creatures that live in
water. Students will visit the stations in groups
of six or seven.

The festival is sponsored by Project WET (Water
Education for Teachers), an educational initiative
promoting education on water topics nationwide. The
corporate sponsor is Poland Springs. On the 21st of
September, there will be a Project WET water
festival in every state in the U.S.

The Morse Pond water festival is being organized by
a partnership between the school and Waquoit Bay
Research Reserve. Please contact Pat Harcourt at
Waquoit Bay Research Reserve (508) 457-0495 x 106
harcourt@capecod.net if you can volunteer. Please
pass on the information to anyone you think might be
interested. See you there!
