LOSING GROUND?
Preserving Open Space on Cape Cod
A Public Forum & Discussion Focusing on Land Use
Wednesday, February 14, 2 p.m.
at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary
What will the future landscape of Cape Cod look like? Since the 1950’s
Cape Cod’s population has grown from 50,000 to over 250,000 residents.
If we were to continue growing and building in compliance with current
town and state regulations, how much land, and what types of habitats,
would be left? What affects would such growth have on water quality and
wildlife populations? Realizing a level of growth is inevitable, how do
we preserve open space while still addressing the need for housing
(especially affordable housing) and industry? How can we use the Cape
Cod Land Bank and the Commuity Preservation Act to benefit our towns?
Joining us for presentatations and discussions:
* John Lipman from the Cape Cod Commission
* Maggie Geist from the Association for the Preservation of Cape Cod
* Tom Stone from the Woods Hole Research Center
* Jennifer Steel from the Massachusetts Audubon Society’s Advocacy
Department
