Cape Cod Natural History Field School for Adults July 16-21, 2000—Session I August 6-11, 2000—Session II offered by the Massachusetts Audubon Society’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary With its abundance of wildlife and spectacular seashore, Cape Cod offers a natural alternative to just hanging out on the beach! In this 5-day field course for adults, we’ll investigate the major aspects of the Cape’s natural history, including coastal birds, marine mammals, endangered species, and marine invertebrates, as well as the Cape’s geology and varied plant communities. Activities include seal watching out of Chatham, birding Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge or South Beach, and canoeing in kettle ponds. We’ll also participate in the Sanctuary’s turtle research, investigate tidal flat ecology, experience the vast salt marshes of Nauset Marsh, and enjoy a “hands-on” oceanography cruise into Cape Cod Bay. Each day, a Massachusetts Audubon naturalist well-versed in Cape Cod’s fascinating natural history will lead the group.
