FISHERIES OBSERVER POSITIONS AVAILABLE

Professional and Technical Services, Inc. is seeking highly-motivated
individuals to serve as Certified Fisheries Observers on board
commercial fishing vessels from Maine to North Carolina.

Candidates must attend a 2-week training course in Woods Hole, MA
commencing September 18th.  Participants will be trained in various data
collection protocols covering several geographical regions and fisheries
including sink gillnet, otter trawl, scallop dredge, lobster pot, and
pelagic longline.  Observer candidate selection will be based on
education, work experience, and knowledge of fish, marine mammals, and
sea turtles.

Certification as a Fisheries Observer will be based on successful
completion of training, written and practical exam scores, interviews
and security background check.  Prior   CPR / First Aid certification a
plus.

Observer duties include collection and reporting of catch and discard
data, vessel/gear characteristics, marine mammal dissections, and
biological sample collection.  Attention to detail and timeliness in
data collection/reporting and ability to respond to short notice
assignments a must.  Out of state travel and reliable vehicle also
required.  Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity in
adverse conditions at sea.  Should not be prone to seasickness.  Tact
and good communication skills required to maintain positive working
relations with members of the fishing industry.

The position is full time.  Contributory health benefits and a
401k-retirement plan included.  Paid holidays, vacation, and sick time.
Mileage, per diem, and lodging are paid for travel to distant ports.
