Greetings Potential Service Partners;
The Barnstable County AmeriCorps-Cape Cod Program and Resource Development
Office requests your participation with our fast approaching 2000-2001
Program Year.
Often termed the “Domestic Peace Corps,” AmeriCorps is a national service
movement enlisting U.S. citizens in a year of service to their community.
AmeriCorps-Cape Cod is a federal, state and County funded program serving
the environmental needs of Cape Cod. We focus on land conservation, water
conservation and environmental education projects; serving with town,
county, state, federal and non profit offices, departments and organizations
in Barnstable County.
Our program enlists 24 highly skilled members - all 22 years old or older
with a college education and a passion for service, in numerous
environmental service projects throughout the Cape. Our members serve two
days of the week on large group projects and three days of the week in
individual placements. We would like to extend an offer to you to become
involved with our program.
Projects that our recently graduated 1999-2000 Corps members were involved
with include:
Research assistants at Cape Cod Natl. Seashore, Marine Biological Laboratory
and WHOI Sea Grant, water quality testing assistants at the County water
quality lab; environmental educators with Waquoit Bay National Estuarine
Research Reserve, YMCA Camp Lyndon, Woods Hole Science Aquarium, Mashpee Boy
and Girls Club, Cape Cod Natl. Seashore and Cooperative Extension’s Regional
Recycling and Coastal Explorer Programs; endangered species monitors with
Cape Cod Natl. Seashore, Waquoit Bay NERR and MassAudubon Society and
assistants in various town conservation, natural resource and shellfish
