Hi Everyone

I hope you are all doing well. I just had a good conversation with Santiago Gasso, one of the US SOLAS SSC members and one of our co-authors on the US SOLAS Science Plan, (and who is copied on this email). Santiago let me know that SOLAS is rethinking its mission and discussing ways to possibly reinvent itself to be useful to scientists in this day and age. To that end, they are having a conference in China in September and are also seeking input from different countries on how SOLAS could be useful in that country. We on OAIC have talked a bit about this in our OAIC meetings -- what can US SOLAS do to make SOLAS more important to US researchers? -- but this conversation is broader - what should international SOLAS do and how should US be a part of that?

To that end, I think it would be great if we all discuss these questions together, with Santiago, so we can learn more about what international SOLAS SSC is thinking and he can hear all your thoughts. So I'd like to schedule a zoom OAIC call/meeting with all of you (or as many as we can get!) and Santiago for sometime during the last two weeks of June: June 19 to June 30. I will make a when2meet soon -- I can't start it yet since some of those dates are too far in the future. To save people from wasting their time filling things out, if you are travelling or otherwise unavailable to talk for any full days during the time of June 19 to June 30, can you just email me (not the whole group) so I can check if there are days we should exclude from the when2meet? The meeting itself will only be an hour.

Also, I am going to the OCB meeting on June 12-15. Are any of you going? I will informally talk about SOLAS to people whose work is relevant. But if any of you have any suggestions of questions I should ask, info I should seek to gather, let me know by email (or by phone) before then.

Cheers, Rachel
