Good afternoon NEFSC colleagues,
Please share with your networks and encourage talented colleagues, graduate students and postdocs to apply!
NOAA's Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC) is recruiting a Research Oceanographer to fill a full time federal position in its Oceans and Climate Branch. We are seeking a Physical Oceanographer whose primary focus will be to conduct research into oceanographic impacts from wind energy development and assess implications for ecosystems on the Northeast US Shelf. The ideal candidate will have experience conducting oceanographic research using both observations and numerical models.
This position is open at the ZP3 and ZP4 levels, located in either Woods Hole, MA or Narragansett, RI. This vacancy is listed under both a Delegated Examining authority (open to all US citizens) and a Merit Promotion Authority (Open to current/former Federal employees with competitive status). Applications will be accepted through USA Jobs from Dec 8-22, 2023.

Major duties for this position include the following:
* Provide scientific leadership by formulating productive research ideas, engaging on emerging issues related to wind energy development and providing the scientific foundation for management programs that have an ecosystem-based framework.
* Design and lead investigations into regional oceanographic issues, utilizing numerical model simulations and scientific analyses of oceanographic data, with an emphasis on the oceanographic impacts of regional wind-energy development and implications for living marine resources.
* Serve as a technical expert conducting research that requires unconventional or novel approaches for resolution, including sophisticated research techniques and tools used to develop technologies and recommendations to support assessment and management of protected and harvested species and more generally to support the development of Ecosystem Based Fisheries Management in the Northeast Region.
* Prepare scientific papers for publication and present results at conferences and workshops. Interact with individuals, partners, communities, and industries to facilitate information flow, to assure coordination and cooperation, and to provide technical assistance in the management of living marine resources and their habitats.
