1. Assistant Professor - Fisheries and Aquaculture Governance

  * Description: (one paragraph) This position will be 60% extension
    (Florida Cooperative Extension Service), and 40% research (Florida
    Agricultural Experimental Station), with tenure accruing in either
    the Food and Resource Economics Department or the School of Forest
    Resources and Conservation, Institute of Food and Agricultural
    Sciences, at the University of Florida, dependent on the successful
    candidate's disciplinary background and interests.  This assignment
    may change in accordance with the needs of the unit.  The position
    represents an important component of a growing programmatic emphasis
    at UF and IFAS which focuses on marine and aquatic systems.  A
    cluster of related positions has been and will be filled as IFAS
    seeks to develop a world-class Sustainable Fisheries Center and an
    international role for the newly formed Institute for Sustainable
    Food Systems.  Both programs emphasize research concerning aquatic
    products, fisheries management, and marine governance / policy. 
    This position is thus part of an integrated, interdisciplinary
    initiative to support the sustainable management and use of scarce
    state, regional, and international marine resources. Applications
    are encouraged from the full breadth of disciplines involved in the
    study of fisheries and aquaculture governance systems including, but
    not limited to: applied economics, political science, law, human
    geography, or natural resources management. Regardless of
    disciplinary background, the applicant should possess an excellent
    skill set and research record in their discipline and a demonstrated
    interest in and aptitude for interdisciplinary research. The
    applicant should also have strong interpersonal and communication
    skills, experience of working with fisheries/aquaculture
    stakeholders, and the motivation to work in multidisciplinary
    teams.  The successful candidate will be expected to secure external
    funding to support his/her research and extension programs, publish
    in appropriate disciplinary and interdisciplinary national and
    international journals, and thus develop nationally recognized
    research and extension programs. The faculty member will participate
    actively in graduate education by chairing graduate committees,
    serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and dissertation
    research, supervising undergraduate research, and publishing the
    results with his/her graduate students.

2. Science and Conservation Internship

    research and develop science and conservation projects to support
    sanctuaries and sanctuary resources, build and strengthen
    partnerships with organizations and institutions that can assist

3. Policy and Research Internship

  * Description: The intern's primary responsibilities will be
    researching and analyzing sanctuary-related policies and issues,
    generating target lists for Congressional and partner engagement,
    developing and executing an outreach strategy, drafting letters and
    other communications materials, and planning briefings and meetings

4. Turtle Sanctuary Coordinator

  * Organization: La Tortuga Viva
  * Location: Juluchuca, Guerrero
  * Description: We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer
    to help coordinate and manage our sea turtle sanctuary, La Tortuga
    Viva. La Tortuga Viva is a sea turtle sanctuary in Juluchuca,
    Guerrero, on Mexico's Pacific coast and operates through the support
    of the sustainable boutique hotel, Playa Viva, and 14 volunteers
    from the local community. The sanctuary coordinator is a
    multifaceted role, involving scientific data collection and
    analysis, community engagement, education, and management. S/he will
    work under the guidance of and report to Playa Viva's Social and
    Environmental Impact Officer. S/he will assist/oversee conservation
    work (e.g. attending nightly patrols), collect, collate, and analyze
    data, organize and lead educational presentations in the community
    and for hotel guests, organize sanctuary visits and hatchling
    releases (for hotel guests), write quarterly reports, build
    relationships with local conservation actors, and engage in
    fundraising and social media. Ideal candidate will have a (minimum)
    B.S. in marine biology/ecology or a related field, experience
    working in sea turtle conservation, fluency in Spanish, strong
    interpersonal communication skills, experience working in developing
    country contexts, community engagement, and ecotourism. This is a
    great opportunity for a young professional looking to gain
    experience in community-based conservation science and management.
    We require a minimum commitment of 3 months and you must be willing
    and able to work in a tropical remote environment. In exchange for
    your service, the volunteer will have shared accommodation in the
    neighboring town of Juluchuca with fellow volunteers and 2 meals per
    day at Playa Viva hotel, 6 days per week.
