seeking a writer and web editor to work with the Ocean Portal team
to manage and produce material for their website
(http://ocean.si.edu/). The mission of the Ocean Portal is to bring
together compelling and innovative ocean-related information,
stories, and multi-media in order to complement the Sant Ocean Hall
and other aspects of the museum's marine initiatives. Visitors to
the Ocean Portal have broad interests not only in science but also
in the arts, and contribute to the experiences of others via social
media. The person holding this position will be responsible for
working with the Sant Chair and Ocean Portal Managing Editor, with
IT support staff, and with content providers both within and outside
the Smithsonian. Work will include researching and writing ocean
stories; designing, loading and updating pages on the site;
supporting social media efforts; site administration; and working
with the Managing Editor to develop funding sources to support new
Ocean Portal features. Applicants should have a strong background in
science writing and marine science and conservation, with either a
master's degree or comparable work experience. Experience with web
site development (specifically Drupal), social media, design,
photo/graphics editing, and video a plus. Starting salary ranges
