3. Intern, Climate Smart Landscapes
* Organization: Conservation International
* Location: Arlington VA
* Description: CI and other organizations are increasing adopting a
"landscape approach" to conservation and sustainable development
interventions, working to achieve landscapes that provide climate
change mitigation and adaptation benefits, as well as social and
environmental benefits. These 'climate smart' initiatives may
include REDD+, climate-smart agriculture, ecosystem-based
adaptation, agricultural certification, sustainable forest
management, among other components. Landscape management with
multiple objectives requires continual learning and adaptive
management, yet monitoring for diverse objectives can be extremely
complex. REDD+, certification systems, and donors all have their
own monitoring and reporting requirements adding complexity and
increasing the risk of duplicated effort and cost. The Intern will
support MCSO staff to synthesize existing monitoring requirements
and the scientific literature, as part of an initiative to identify
standard climate, social and biodiversity indicators that facilitate
the implementation of climate-smart landscapes.
