Description: Marine Conservation Institute's internship program
provides motivated and academically-promising students an
opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world
arena. Interns work closely with science and policy staff on cutting
edge issues in marine conservation biology and ocean policy. Most of
the internship opportunities are geared towards graduate students or
students who have recently completed graduate degrees, although we
have on occasion developed opportunities for undergraduates to work
on pressing marine conservation issues. Policy interns have
described their internship experience as being important for
learning about lobbying and the legislative process and for
understanding more about packaging science for Federal decision makers.

3. Conservation Intern, Belize

* Description: The role of the Conservation Intern involves analysing
coral reef, bird and manatee data collected via Blue Ventures
expeditions, and leading in-water surveys of invasive lionfish
across Belize under the management and guidance of the Country
Coordinator. With these analyses, the selected candidate will have
the opportunity to contribute towards programmes that have real
conservation impact, including an evaluation of the effectiveness of
Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve and National Park, a UNESCO World
Heritage Site, and the development of a national strategy for
control of invasive lionfish in Belize. The Conservation Intern will
also assist with the collection of socioeconomic data, under the
direct supervision of the Community Officer, helping us streamline
the design of our invasive lionfish campaign, understand the impact
of our work, and ensure that our projects accurately address
community needs.

5. New York Seascape Outreach Coordinator
