projects along the west coast of Madagascar we are seeking a 
scientist/forester experienced in the successful development of forest 
carbon projects.  The job will entail managing the applied research 
required to develop a VCS REDD+CIW project; as well as presenting the 
blue carbon science outputs of the project to government and high level 
national REDD+ forums, and supporting the integration of blue carbon

WCS seeks a Conservation Science Coordinator to lead the scientific and 
technical aspects of their marine program in Belize. The primary purpose 
of WCS in Belize is to develop and implement science-based conservation 
and management programs that will conserve Belize’s marine ecosystems in 
the long term.

Summary of Position

The Conservation Science Coordinator, who will be based in the WCS 
office in Belize City, will directly supervise the Technical 
Coordinator, and other staff as may be assigned, and assist in 
management of the science and education programs conducted at the 
Glover’s Reef Marine Research Station.  S/he will also provide input on 
grant proposals and reports.  The Conservation Science Coordinator will 
report to WCS’s Belize Country Program Director.

The Conservation Science Coordinator will be responsible for:

·Strengthen the science component of programs by providing the necessary 
expertise and oversight to project development, design, and implementation.

·Lead WCS Belize’s environmental and fisheries monitoring programs, data 
analyses and interpretation of results; disseminate results of research 
and monitoring through writing of technical reports and peer-reviewed 
papers, contributing to outreach materials, and attending meetings and 
workshops.

·Maintain and manage current data sets in the most suitable formats and 
ensure data quality standards.

·Provide scientific oversight, strategy and direction to the research 
conducted at the Glover’s Reef Research Station.

·Directly supervise the work of the Technical Coordinator and other 
staff that may be assigned, including serving as the Primary Reviewer on 
annual performance evaluations, providing professional mentorship and 
technical guidance, and overseeing the development and execution of the 
annual work plan.

·Advise the Country Director on the scientific and technical aspects of 
the WCS Belize Marine Program as part of the ongoing strategic review 
and adjustment of the program.

·Assist with project reporting, development of project proposals and 
fund-raising.

·Coordinate training of students in relevant field courses, using the 
Glovers Reef Research Station as a platform, and assist with the 
development of field courses.

Required Qualifications and Experience

·Excellent knowledge of the marine environment in Belize, as well as the 
existing legal and management framework; thorough understanding of 
marine conservation issues in Belize

·Commitment to marine conservation and the mission of the Wildlife 
Conservation Society

·Sound knowledge and experience with design of research or surveys, data 
collection and statistical analysis, including proficiency in the use of 
statistical software (ideally R and custom packages such as Distance, 
Mark and Presence), use of GPS and GIS; qualified SCUBA diver

·Excellent communication and organizational skills

·A Ph.D. (preferable) or M.Sc. in marine science and/or natural

The Bracken-Grissom Lab at Florida International University in the 
Department of Biology and Marine Sciences Program is looking for a 
1-year postdoctoral fellow with an interest in evolutionary biology and 
genomics.

The Bracken-Grissom Lab is fundamentally interested in the evolution of 
marine invertebrates with an emphasis on decapod crustaceans.Present 
research combines molecular, morphological, and fossil evidence to gain 
insights into evolutionary relationships (phylogeny), biogeography, 
biodiversity, ecology, origins, and diversification of crabs, lobsters 
and shrimp.

The successful applicant will be involved in multiple projects that 
include: 1) large scale phylogenetic/phylogenomic/population genetic 
studies of decapod crustaceans and 2) the evolution of bioluminescence 
using RNAseq data.Mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students will 
be needed as part of these projects.Experience with wet-lab molecular

Job Description

Oceana's Legal Department seeks current law students who have an 
interest in ocean conservation or environmental law to serve as law 
clerks or externs. The legal team brings strategic federal litigation to 
advance marine conservation goals (mainly under the Magnuson-Stevens 
Fishery Conservation and Management Act, the National Environmental 
Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the Marine Mammal Protection 
Act) and supports Oceana’s policy and legislative initiatives. Oceana’s 
current campaigns focus on encouraging responsible fisheries, including 
conservation of sharks and sea turtles; combating seafood fraud; and 
advocating clean offshore energy while fighting the expansion of 
offshore oil and gas drilling.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess excellent research and writing skills, a solid 
academic record, the maturity to support a team effort, strong work 
ethic, sense of initiative and good judgment. Law clerks may be asked to 
perform legal and factual research, review and analyze administrative 
records, draft research memoranda and legal documents, analyze 
legislation and help implement lobbying strategies, attend court and/or 
Congressional hearings, and participate in staff meetings. We currently 
have several clerkship positions open for Fall 2014. Clerks must work

We are seeking a mature, self-motivated, charismatic interpreter to 
assist with campfire programs at the outdoor campfire center and Junior 
Ranger programs in a coastal beach environment. The position is 
classified as a seasonal position and will be assigned to San Elijo 
State Beach and South Carlsbad State Beach campgrounds. Programs will be 
conducted on weekends and holidays and some evening shifts are required. 
The anticipated start date is mid-May.

Primary responsibilities include assisting with creating, preparing and 
conducting high quality educational programs for all ages, including 
campfire programs, tide pool walks, nature walks, junior ranger 
programs, school programs, and community presentations and talks. Duties 
will also include: assisting other presenters in program presentation, 
organizing and scheduling interpretive programs with the park rangers, 
perform routine administrative duties, and inventory, maintain, repair, 
replace, and order interpretive equipment and supplies, and assist in 
campground entrance station operations as needed.

Desirable traits/experience includes: ability to read, write, and speak 
English at a level to effectively communicate thematic programs, 
proficiency with audio visual equipment, computers, and cameras in 
program preparation and presentation, knowledge of State Park 
operations, ability to inform and educate the public of laws, 
regulations, and procedures, ability to work outside and stand for long 
periods of time, and wear a prescribed uniform.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

ü  Equivalency to (2) full years of high school completion with special 
interest in natural sciences or human history, or (2) with major work in 
education.

ü  Paid or non-paid work performing duties similar to those of a park
