The four Sea Grant College Programs of the Gulf of Mexico are pleased to
release this announcement for four non-tenured track, 12-month, two-year
limited term, grant funded positions related to a new oil spill science
outreach program. The oil spill science outreach program will focus on
the two-way transfer of information between (1) the people whose
livelihoods depend on a healthy Gulf of Mexico or who are involved in
the protection and management of Gulf of Mexico coastal and marine
resources; and (2) the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative scientists,
administrators and board of directors. The candidate selected for this
position must be able to understand and translate technical oil spill
science results in a particular focus area (biology, chemistry, physics
or public health) for diverse audiences; engage with people with
different perspectives; lead and facilitate public meetings, seminars
and workshops; and perform other duties as assigned.
Each outreach position will be based in a different state, report
directly to their state program and the regional outreach manager and
work regionally as a team. Travel throughout the Gulf of Mexico and
beyond is expected. Outreach positions will likely be based in the
Florida panhandle; Mobile, Alabama; Baton Rouge or Louisiana coastal
zone; and Corpus Christi, Texas. Only one person will be hired by each
Sea Grant College Program and separate, completed applications must be
submitted to each Sea Grant College Program in which the applicant is
willing to work. Applicants can apply to as many positions as

This is a strategic position that will co-ordinate the two year Marine
Spatial Planning Project funded by Darwin Plus. The project will,
through review, analyses and consultation, provide this framework,
enabling the Falkland Islands to start to plan and manage the
sustainable development and conservation of their marine environment.
Main Accountabilities: There will be two closely linked approaches to
delivering this work:
1) Development of GIS baseline maps of the distributions of coastal,
inshore and offshore habitats, together with their biota and resources,
including areas/sites of current and prospective hydrocarbon extraction
and exploration.
2) A series of workshops and stakeholder meetings, initially to help
create and populate the GIS data and map layers, subsequently to review
and discuss the potential approaches to MSP in the FI and the
application of these data.

bio-regionalisation approach used by CCAMLR to delineate a network of
MPAs in Antarctica, the Patagonian Forum

The Faculty of Science and Technology at University of Tromso's (UiT)
Arctic University of Norway, seeks candidates for a postdoctoral
research fellowship in earth observation and remote sensing. The
position is offered for a fixed term of three years and is based in
Tromso, Norway.
The successful candidate shall conduct his/her work within the scope of
a project entitled, "Detection and Characterization of Anthropogenic Oil
Pollution in the Barents Sea by Synthetic Aperture Radar;" a joint
effort between UiT The Arctic University of Norway and Russian Academy
of Science, and their respective partners. The research fellow will work
on algorithm development, multi-sensor techniques, and information
retrieval from remote sensing measurements. It is desired that the
research conducted have an emphasis on synthetic aperture radar (SAR)
and emerging polar-metric SAR techniques, with application to petroleum
related pollution monitoring in the Barents Sea and the marginal ice
zone. Both theoretical and experimental work will be relevant. The
applicant shall submit a project proposal within the above-mentioned
scope. The research fellow may also be involved in the activities
related to the Barents Remote Sensing School, a research school for PhD
students at the Department of Physics and Technology.

Two seasonal Wildlife Technicians positions are available with the
Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). These
positions are located at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska.
The Wildlife Technicians will primarily conduct surveys for small
mammals in support of the JBER longterm monitoring project. The
technician may be expected to periodically assist with the JBER avian,
fisheries, marine mammal, forestry, invasive plant, or outdoor
recreation teams. Duties include, but are not limited to: setting and
checking Sherman live traps, Victor snap traps, and pitfall traps for
small mammals. The technician will enter data, manage databases, data
conversion to GIS, and conduct analyses, compile reports educate the
public on JBER wildlife biology, and coordinate with volunteers.
