*Seafood Safety and Technology Specialist, New York Sea Grant*

New York Sea Grant is soliciting applications for a Seafood Safety and 
Technology Specialist.  The position will be located at Stony Brook 
University, Stony Brook, NY.

The Seafood Safety and Technology Specialist will develop, conduct, and 
evaluate educational programs in seafood technology in New York State, 
the region and the nation, as needed.  The position will be responsible 
for developing and maintaining training programs and providing technical 
assistance on issues related to seafood safety, quality, handling, 
processing and marketing for the seafood industry, local, state, and 
federal government officials, industry leaders, and university faculty 
and staff. The position will develop and deliver educational materials 
and provide technical expertise on seafood products, their utilization, 
nutritional properties, and safety issues for food and nutrition 
professionals, consumers, government, and community organizations.  The 
Seafood Technology Specialist works independently to bring the resources 
of the National Sea Grant program, Cornell University, the State 
University of NY, university based professionals in other states, 
industry and trade organizations, and state and federal programs to New 
York, and uses these resources to develop and deliver educational 
programs that address seafood issues important to the state's seafood

*Oceans and Coasts Program Director, The Nature Conservancy*

The Director of Oceans and Coasts for the North America Region oversees 
the Conservancy's efforts to protect and restore the oceans and coasts 
of the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean.  The Director works 
with field programs, US Government Relations (USGR), and regional 
leadership to develop and advance high-leverage strategies for marine 
conservation and addressing major marine challenges related to coastal

*Outreach positions, Marine Wildlife Program, State of Hawaii *

The Marine Wildlife Program, with the State of Hawaii Department of Land 
and Natural Resources, has extended the deadline for applying to 2 new 
outreach positions to work with fishermen, ocean users, Native Hawaiian 
organizations, agencies, and communities to address Hawaiian monk seal 
and sea turtle issues and reduce harmful interactions.  The positions 
are located on Kauai and Maui County.  The new deadline is January 15, 2015.

A few key points to consider:

  * We are looking for people with real world, on the ground experience
    (academic training is secondary).  For example, on Kauai, two (2)
    years of additional work experience in environmental science, marine
    science, or with education and community programs may substitute for
    an Associate's Degree.
  * The job is not 9a-5p. It's about being where you need to be when you
    need to be there.
  * The salaries that went out previously were incorrect.  The new
    descriptions (attached) reflect the appropriate, higher salaries.

*Ocean Exploration Trust fellowships, for high school students, too!*

  * The Ocean Exploration Trust is looking for a fresh team of science
    communication fellows for their upcoming season. The Trust and their
    ship the E/V Nautilus will be mapping and exploring new portions of
    the seafloor this year all while broadcasting the entire thing live.
    Our mission is to advance ROV and telepresence technology while
    inspiring the next generation of explorers to pursue STEM careers.
    The ship operates a lot like a teaching hospital for ocean
    exploration with legends working side by side with interns,
    educators, and students of all ages. The Trust pays all expenses
    associated with joining the season including bringing the cohort to
    a Science Communication Workshop before the season begins.
