The Luc Hoffmann Institute, based at WWF International, Switzerland, in
partnership with the National Social-Environmental Synthesis Center
(SESYNC), seeks a postdoctoral fellow to work with an interdisciplinary

(CRT) to evaluate the impacts of marine conservation interventions by
synthesizing and analyzing monitoring data for marine protected areas
(MPAs). The goal of the fellowship is to demonstrate an
interdisciplinary approach to monitoring MPAS, evaluating impacts, and
analyzing data that builds upon established MPA monitoring protocols and
questions, which inform decisions through assessment and modeling of
ecosystem services, including fisheries, tourism, etc.
This is a 24-month position that can begin as early as November 1, 2013.
It will be based at the University of Maryland’s SESYNC offices in
Annapolis, MD, with mentor(s) to be identified from the Pursuit/CRT
participants. The fellow will be a full participant in SESYNC’s
postdoctoral mentoring program and interact with a large group of
current postdocs at the Center, and will also be a full participant in

•Compile all teaching materials to an Annual Program Disk.
Outreach
•Establish a high-profile local (Little Cayman) communications and
volunteer effort that disseminates information to local resorts and to
the broad CCMI network.
•Lead conservation efforts providing information on important local
topics including the lionfish invasion, grouper aggregation, and climate
stress.Activities include :
-Help organising the Reef Report lecture series offering monthly talks
and activities at the field station,
-Maintaining the dollar-a-dive campaign on Little Cayman,
-Weekly talks at local resorts,
-Assist in managing our Facebook, and
-Post new videos on YouTube.
Reports and Other Responsibilities
•Prepare Quarterly Education newsletter and monthly press releases.
Document the activities with photographs and videos, survey results,
testimonials, and summaries of each of the local educational programs
carried out at the Little Cayman Research Centre.
•Complete a final Education and Outreach Report for sponsors and Board
at the end of the season (August 30) with an assessment of the entry and
exit knowledge gained by program participants.
•Assist the Director of Operations as needed on facility projects, tasks
or maintenance
TERM:
•6 days/week, full-time
•Probationary Employment: 3 months
•Full 1 year work permit after probationary period.

The Legal Department seeks to host a volunteer Law Fellow//who has an
interest in ocean conservation or environmental law. The legal team
brings strategic federal litigation to advance marine conservation goals
(mainly under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management
Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act,
and the Marine Mammal Protection Act) and supports Oceana’s policy and
legislative initiatives. Oceana’s current campaigns focus on
encouraging responsible fisheries, including conservation of sharks and
sea turtles; combating seafood fraud; and advocating clean offshore
energy while fighting the expansion of offshore oil and gas drilling.

This is an unpaid position. Oceana welcomes applications from
individuals who have, or may be able to obtain, funding from outside
organizations, or who wish to gain experience in both policy and
litigation work on a volunteer basis. The Volunteer Law Fellow is

flexibility in the time commitment is possible for exceptional
