pursuant to the Coastal Ocean Resources Stewardship Act of 2000 to
provide scientific guidance to the state on ocean policy issues. Our
mission is to advance a constructive role for science in decision-making
by promoting collaboration and mutual understanding among scientists,
citizens, managers and policymakers working towards sustained, healthy
and productive coastal and ocean ecosystems. Current initiatives within
OST focus on advancing MPA monitoring, sustainable fisheries management,

knowledge of marine ecological systems, the Senior Scientist will
identify and pursue strategic opportunities to advance science-informed
decision-making on a range of state-priority ocean issues including
MPAs, fisheries, and climate effects on marine ecosystems. With the
statewide MPA network as a foundation, the Senior Scientist will design
collaborative and robust processes to engage a broad constituency in key
issues, deploy tools and approaches to advance a constructive dialogue,
and develop new pathways to integrate science into ocean resource
management and policy. The Senior Scientist will work closely with OST’s
programmatic leads in social science, technology and communications and
collaborate with a range of partners, including state agencies, tribes,
researchers and stakeholders. Reporting directly to the OST Program
Director, the successful candidate will supervise and mentor staff

Fisheries Evaluation Coordinator, EDF
La Paz, Mexico
The Gulf of California Sustainable Fisheries Project
This project presents a plan developed in consultation with Mexican and
US partners to apply catch shares fisheries management in a select
number of fisheries in the Gulf of California, develop the human and
institutional resources required for implementation, strengthen the
legal and regulatory environment that makes change possible, and explore
new ways to finance the costs of transition to sustainability. The
effort we propose is a consequence of a groundbreaking partnership with
other organizations, fishermen, and government agencies. It is an
opportunity to introduce catch shares fisheries management and similar
tools across Mexico and in other countries.

evaluation of several fishery projects to determine progress in terms of
biological, social and economic goals, as compared to developed
indicators. Further, with relevant training, the Evaluation Coordinator
is expected to help provide key scientific, management and design
support to each fishery, and when applicable support fishery improvement
