Sea Turtle Camp is currently accepting applications for the Program 
Coordinator position. Sea Turtle Camp is based on Topsail Island, NC and 
was created to immerse teens in the field of marine biology while 
empowering them to be proactive and take ownership of their environment. 
One of our goals is to share our passion for life and teach young adults 
how to mold that into a selfless, hard working team of individuals that 
can recognize problems and work towards solving them.

Duties of the Program Coordinator include preparing all camp materials, 
developing marine science curriculum, coordinating all camp activities 
and field trips including volunteer visits to the Karen Beasley Sea 
Turtle Hospital, answering questions about the program, maintaining an 
open line of communication with all participants and parents, hiring 
summer staff, and inspiring future generations of ocean stewards. The 
summer season runs from mid-June though early August with the 
opportunity for additional school groups attending both before and after 
the summer season.

Coral Reef Conservation Program Biologist, NOAA National Marine

Federal Government Contractor is submitting a proposal to work with the 
NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program Office located in Boquerón, Puerto 
Rico.   We are currently looking for a candidate to fill a Biologist 
position that may become available after contract award.  The NOAA CRCP 
Biologist in the CFO will support the coordination and implementation of 
goals and objectives related to fishing, land-based sources of 
pollution, lack of awareness, and climate change and will collaborate 
with the USVI Coral Reef Ecologist to address fisheries-related goals, 
objectives, and plans for Puerto Rico.  Qualified candidates should be 
available to start work within two weeks’ notice and on or around 
September 17, 2012.

This position is intended to promote the goals and objectives of the 
Coral Reef Conservation Act of 2000 and the NOAA Coral Reef Conservation 
Program (CRCP) through the work of the National Marine Fisheries Service 
Southeast Regional Office, Protected Resources Division (PRD), Caribbean 
Field Office (CFO) and will continue to provide management capability 
and the necessary level of professional support to facilitate the 
participation of the CFO in the CRCP and effectively implement the coral 
programs and Local Action Strategies (LAS) of Puerto Rico and the U.S. 
Virgin Islands (USVI) to enhance the conservation and management of 
coral reef ecosystems.

This position will also complement other CRCP work in the Southeast 
Region being done by the Southeast Fisheries Science Center, National

Scientific Diver, Nature Seychelles

Nature Seychelles, a leading environmental NGO in the Western Indian 
Ocean, has a potential opening for one scientific diver to help to 
implement a 3-years USAID-funded project on coral reef restoration 
around Cousin Island Special Reserve and Praslin Island, Seychelles.

The post holder will learn new techniques and methodologies for reef 
restoration, participate in coral collection, nursery construction, 
macroalgae removal and transplantation-related experiments. He or she 
will be able to work long hours on a boat, fragmenting coral fragments and
putting them in ropes, and conduct up to two dives a day to transplant 
nursery-grown colonies onto degraded reef.


Skills and requirements:

- Certified diver (minimum PADI Divemaster) with strong scuba diving 
experience
- Boat license (RYA powerboat level 2) and significant practice of boat 
driving
- High physical fitness and ability to work in harsh conditions (strong 
current, low visibility)
- Previous experience working in tropical marine conservation/research 
(coral and fish monitoring an asset)
- Minimum BSc in conservation or marine science
- Statistical packages and scientific data analysis
- Underwater photography
- Ability to learn, appreciate and operate effectively in multi-cultural 
teams

Contract conditions - Allowance of R7,000/month (about US$ 538) - Shared 
accommodation - Diving insurance to be provided by the volunteer - 3

investigating all aspects of sea mammal biology within the Scottish

Communications Specialist, Santa Monica Bay Restoration Foundation

The Santa Monica Bay Restoration Foundation is a nonprofit organization 
dedicated to restoring and enhancing the Santa Monica Bay and Southern 
California coastal waters. We work closely with our partner state 
agency, the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission, to coordinate, fund 
and manage projects and programs that contribute to restoration and

Position Summary
The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing a strategic 
plan for outreach and education for the Foundation. She or he is 
responsible for promoting, creating awareness of, and galvanizing 
stakeholder support of the Foundation’s vision. Under the supervision of 
the Foundation’s Executive Director, the Communications Specialist 
handles communication-related functions including developing 
communication strategies and publications, organizing outreach events, 
and building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, partners

Responsibilities Include:
Update the Foundation’s outreach strategic plan and communications 
protocols and guidelines

Conduct and coordinate stakeholder outreach and fundraising campaigns 
with a focus on private sectors

receptions, and donor events

Maintain communications between Foundation representatives, stakeholders 
and funders Prepare/oversee press releases and media stories, and

Preferred Experience and Skills:

Senior Associate, Policy Analysis, Southeast Forage Fish Conservation, 
Pew Environment Group

This initiative will work to protect forage fish in waters off the coast 
of Florida and seek consistent state and federal protections for forage 
fish in the Southeastern United States. The person in this position will 
also assist the campaign with efforts to ensure effective implementation 
of annual catch limits and accountability measures and other policies 
necessary to ensure sustainable management of fisheries in the southeast 
U.S., including the U.S. Caribbean.

The Senior Associate, Policy Analysis, is responsible for conducting 
technical and policy research and analysis to support the Pew 
Environment Group’s fishery reform work in the Southeast U.S. The 
analyst is also responsible for helping to communicate results of this 
research and analysis to the general public, fishery stakeholders and 
policymakers by drafting testimony, meeting summaries, policy 
statements, white papers, and reports. The analyst will represent Pew at 
the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, and at Southeast 
fishery management councils as needed. They will also attend and 
participate in associated advisory and scientific committees and panels 
as appropriate, arranging in-person briefings and organizing 
presentations at key meetings and conferences.

This person will coordinate with the Senior Science and Policy Analysts 
working with the Campaign on related fisheries issues before the Gulf of 
Mexico, South Atlantic and U.S. Caribbean Fishery Management Councils, 
and work with the Project Director and Communications Manager to develop 
factsheets, brochures, and other materials for the campaign’s public 
education and advocacy efforts.

Manager, Federal Fisheries Campaign, Pew Environment Group

The federal fisheries project leads the Pew Environment Group’s efforts 
to ensure that Congress and the National Marine Fisheries Service 
effectively implement the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and 
Management Act (MSA) to end overfishing, rebuild depleted fish 
populations and protect ocean ecosystems. The campaign also works to 
achieve the stable and adequate funding needed for sustainable federal 
fisheries management.  To accomplish these goals, we work closely with 
scientists, policy makers, fishery managers, fishermen and conservation 
organizations throughout the country.

The policy manager will develop strategic and operational plans for the 
project; oversee and manage all policy aspects of the federal fisheries 
campaign; communicate summaries to PCT personnel; and initiate and 
regularly maintain contacts with conservation and fishing organizations 
and other stakeholders as needed.  The manager will also serve as a 
liaison to PEG’s U.S. fisheries campaigns and lead PEG’s MSA 
reauthorization efforts.  The manager will be a member of the U.S.

Coordinator of Marine Sciences Program, Charles Darwin Foundation

The person contracted will lead the marine investigation group of the 
Charles Darwin Foundation (CDF) whose responsibility is to respond to 
the principal threats in Galapagos, such as invasive species, climate 
change and the lack of sustainable development. The position needs to 
strengthen the advice that CDF gives to the National Park of Galapagos 
related to the management of the Galapagos Marine Reserve (GMR). The 
person contracted will collaborate with the five programs of the Area 
for Integrated Science (marine science, restoration, evaluation of 
biodiversity and knowledge management, human systems and scientific 
outreach) contributing to a solid scientific base with a holistic focus 
for management decisions. The work includes carrying out and directing 
investigation and technical help to field programs. The person will work 
with the

Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship, NOAA

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ernest F. 
Hollings (Hollings) scholarship program is designed to:

1.increase undergraduate training in oceanic and atmospheric science, 
research, technology, and education and foster multidisciplinary 
training opportunities;
2.increase public understanding and support for stewardship of the ocean 
and atmosphere and improve environmental literacy;
3.recruit and prepare students for public service careers with NOAA and 
other natural resource and science agencies at the federal, state and 
local levels of government; and
4.recruit and prepare students for careers as teachers and educators in 
oceanic and atmospheric science and to improve scientific and 
environmental education in the United States.

The Hollings Scholarship Program provides successful undergraduate 
applicants with awards that include academic assistance (up to a maximum 
of $8,000 per year) for full-time study during the 9-month academic 
year; a 10-week, full-time internship position ($650/week) during the 
summer at a NOAA facility; and, if reappointed, academic assistance (up 
to a maximum of $8,000) for full-time study during a second 9-month 
academic year. The internship between the first and second years of the 
award provides the Scholars with "hands-on"/ practical educational 
training experience in NOAA-related science, research, technology, 
policy, management, and education activities. Awards also include travel 
funds to attend a mandatory NOAA Scholarship Program orientation, 
conferences where students present a paper or poster, and a housing 
subsidy for scholars who do not reside at home during the summer internship.
