The Pew Charitable Trusts is driven by the power of knowledge to solve today's most challenging problems. Pew applies a rigorous, analytical approach to improve public policy, inform the public and stimulate civic life. The Ocean Science Division of the Pew Environment Group (PEG) improves the scientific knowledge about conservation issues through two components:
* The Lenfest Ocean Program (www.lenfestocean.org<http://www.lenfestocean.org/>), supported by the Lenfest Foundation and administered by PEG, sponsors and communicates peer-reviewed research projects on timely marine policy issues;
* The Ocean Science Division:
* Sponsors and communicates scientific research, workshops, and other activities supported directly by Pew;
* Fosters a community of conservation oriented scientists through the Pew Fellows Program in Marine Conservation;
* Provides advice and support to the scientific components of PEG's marine policy campaigns by generating scientific or technical materials on marine conservation topics that are relevant to Pew campaigns, and engaging scientists directly on marine conservation policy issues.
This position will report to the project director of the Lenfest Ocean Program and is based in Washington, DC.
The officer, Lenfest Ocean Program is responsible for assisting the director in the identification and development of new research projects, including researching and monitoring marine science issues, assessing the strengths and weaknesses of potential partners, evaluating project costs and designing efficient budgets, establishing measurable goals and targets, and developing timelines. The candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills and be highly organized. The candidate must have a minimum of eight years experience related to marine science or policy, with strong scientific analytical skills. Doctorate in marine ecology or equivalent preferred. Graduate degree required.
