POLICY COORDINATOR, CCCHFA

Chatham, MA

The Cape Cod Commercial Hook Fishermen's Association (CCCHFA) is a nonprofit organization that aligns protection of the oceans with the economic interests of our fishing community. We currently have an opening for a Policy Coordinator.

CCCHFA is a progressive leader that promotes stewardship of coastal ecosystems and community-based fisheries management through outreach, research, and policy programs. Started in 1991 by a small group of Cape Cod commercial hook and line fishermen, CCCHFA quickly developed into an organized voice for local fishermen. Their theory was simple: that responsible fishing practices and conservative regulations would generate healthy fish stocks and revitalize the region's ailing fishing communities.

Policy Coordinator will report directly to the Policy Director and work closely with the Communications Coordinator. The Policy Coordinator will provide in-house cross-disciplinary analysis of a broad range of policy issues impacting New England's fishermen and prepare concise arguments, talking points, and summaries to equip CCCHFA's campaigns with up-to date information. This person will also be working directly with commercial fishermen and other partners to build strong relationships and forward policy goals. A background and interest in fisheries science and management along with a desire to affect positive change in regional fishing communities is essential.

Preferred requirements:

. Master's degree in policy, economics, biology, statistics or related discipline and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in related field. (Alternately, a Bachelor's degree with 4-6 years work experience.)

. Experience with environmental, fisheries, oceans, or coastal issues, preferably in New England;

. Ability to understand complex policy, regulations, and fisheries concepts (i.e. stock assessment techniques and models), evaluate and analyze them, and distill them into clear and concise summaries;

. Excellent demonstrated organizational, written, and interpersonal skills;

. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Review of resumes is ongoing; please send cover letter, resume, desired salary, and three (3) work samples ASAP to:

Melissa Sanderson, Chief Operating Officer

mel at ccchfa.org

Cape Cod Commercial Hook Fishermen's Association

Start Date: immediate

Location of Work: Chatham, MA

Salary competitive and commensurate with experience; health benefits included after 3 month review.

CCCHFA is an equal opportunity employer and provider.

More information about CCCHFA is available online: www.ccchfa.org

Specific functions:

. Work with the Policy Director to:

• Develop and maintain close relationships with the fishermen we serve; work with the fleet to identify shared challenges and opportunities to address these issues.

• Coordinate and inform policies and objectives of all policy initiatives.

• Research, evaluate, and track relevant national, regional, and local regulatory and policy issues.

• Monitor and understand current stock assessments for species of local concern and distill science into language useful to fishermen and policymakers.

• Provide cross-disciplinary analysis on a variety of policy issues: check facts, distill arguments, evaluate alternatives, and produce summaries/talking points.

• Draft, revise and submit organizational comments.

• Attend and coordinate fishermen participation in fisheries meetings.

. Work with Communications Coordinator to:

• Draft and update talking points and arguments to achieve organizational goals.

• Assist in writing media pieces to meet specific deliverables for campaigns.
